I am the principal owner of Rainwater & Associates, LLC (R&A), a small woman-owned mediation, facilitation, and public involvement consulting firm focusing primarily on environmental and public policy issues. Jill has been associated with R&A for over a year and in that time has be providing support in the form of recording stakeholder input at public stakeholder meetings dealing with complex environmental issues. Jill has also consulted on strategies for public involvement, addressing controversial public policy issues that are politically charged, and counseling conveners on communication and presentation skills. In the course of working with Jill I have found her to be an intelligent and strategic thinker who is quick to find solutions and act upon them.
Jill is an adroit and conscientious writer whom I trust enormously. She is quick to fill the need, whatever it may be, to ensure the work gets done as needed and with the highest quality. Jill has traveled at odd hours and stayed late for late public meetings and always has a can-do attitude towards the task at hand. She is a tenacious business developer and I witnessed her craft copy solutions for clients across many platforms: an ebook, print ad copy, agent and publisher query letters, book titles, descriptions, synopses, and book proposal copy, in addition to pursuing numerous writing projects of her own. As you know, selling a published work requires a completely different kind of writing skill than writing the book itself. Jill is highly skilled and accomplished in both of these areas. In addition to Jill being a successful published author in her own right, I have seen her adopt dozens of different writing voices according to the needs of the author or project.
I have also seen Jill’s skills in action as an on-the-spot creative problem-solver: during the many introductory teleclasses (classes conducted via telephone using conference call lines) we ran together, Jill dealt with every type of author and would-be author, and was able to translate their ideas instantly into (more) marketable titles and descriptions. In those cases where a beginning writer’s idea held little or no commercial publishing potential, Jill delivered this news with grace and aplomb. No hearts were broken, and many clients got much-needed help.
Jill and I worked well together, both personally and professionally. She knew when to show up as a support and resource person, and when to back off and let me work with a given client on my own. A couple of times, we ran across clients we felt challenged by, and Jill always came up with approaches that helped the clients feel respected while not compromising my role as a consultant. In addition, Jill never failed to impress me with the creativity, fluidity, and openness of her mind and her imagination. She is someone who handles criticism very well and is always ready, willing, and able to entertain and devise new ideas if a first idea just doesn't work.
She has the business vision to act with the big picture in mind, the interpersonal skills to build team confidence, and the creative acumen to create instant copy for any need. In addition, she is a warm, funny, nurturing, reliable and very together person who is a pleasure to work with.
